HomeMy WebLinkAbout11250RESOLUTION NO. 11250 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PUEBLO TO APPLY FOR A COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SAFETY GRANT AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo is eligible to submit an application to the Colorado Department of Transportation for a Safety Grant which will allow for the purchase of several specialized vehicles, several pieces of specialized equipment, and a media traffic safety campaign; and WHEREAS, the term of the grant covers the period from October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009; and WHEREAS, the undertaking of this project is in the best interest of the City and will benefit the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of the City; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1 _ The application for a Colorado Department of Transportation Safety Grant, a copy of which is attached hereto, is hereby approved. The President of City Council is authorized to submit the application in the name of the City. SECTION 2_ This resolution shall become effective upon its passage. TITLE A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING,, THE, CITY OF PUEBLO TO APPLY FOR A COLORADO DEPARTMENT, OF_, TRANSPORTATION SAFETY GRANT' AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE CITY'COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME . The Police Department recommends approval of this resolution. BACKGROUND This grant application, if approved, will allow the City of Pueblo to purchase and 'equip a mobile Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection unit, purchase and equip four (4) police motorcycles, purchase twelve (12) digital police in -car video systems, purchase (g) dash- mounted radar units, and conduct a traffic safety campaign. This'grant,will allow;' the Police Department to increase its traffic safety activities during the ,period from October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009 thereby increasing the overall safety of the motoring public. All public education and enforcement activities will be conducted during normal Police Department assignments. FINANCIAL IMPACT ISSUE Should the City of Pueblo be'authorized to submit an, application for a CDOT Safety Grant in the amount.of`$287,100.00? RECOMMENDATION None. There is no match required for this grant.
