INTRODUCED March 24, 2008 BY Vera Ortegon Councilperson 00EQ IC IT' I UHt ATTESTr=D RY: Background Paper for Proposed RESOLUTION DATE: March 24, 2008 DEPARTMENT: WASTEWATER Gene Michael TITLE AGENDA ITEM # A RESOLUTION APPROVING AN AGREEMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $64,095.00 BETWEEN THE CITY OF PUEBLO AND THE BLACK & VEATCH CORPORATION FOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING,SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH WATER RECLAMATION FACILITY INFLUENT SCREW PUMP REPLACEMENT - ISSUE Should the City Council approve an agreement in the amount of $64,095.00 with the Black & Veatch Corporation for engineering services associated with Water Reclamation Facility influent screw pump replacement. RECOMMENDATION Approval of Resolution BACKGROUND Pueblo's Water Reclamation Facility was designed and constructed in the mid- 1980's. The pumps selected to move wastewater into the facility were 48 -foot, 72 -inch diameter enclosed screw pumps that are now 20 years old and in need of significant repair. The pumps are obsolete and repair parts cannot be obtained. Maintenance is costly and time - consuming. The Wastewater Department desires to replace one of the existing influent screw pumps with a pair of submersible pumps. Submersible pumps will provide upgraded technology and more energy- efficient operation, along with the capability to replace individual pumps if necessary. The project requires civil and electrical engineering design work that is beyond the capability of the Wastewater Department. Black and Veatch Corporation was selected through a competitive bid process to serve as the Engineer of Record for the Wastewater Department, providing specialized design and construction services of the type required for this project. A copy of the agreement with Black & Veatch is attached.
