A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PUEBLO
TO APPLY FOR A 2007 ANTI -GANG INITIATIVE FOR
GANG VIOLENCE REDUCTION
WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo Police Department is requesting that the City of
Pueblo submit an application to the Colorado Department of Public Safety, Division of
Criminal Justice for the 2007 Anti -Gang Initiative for Gang Violence Reduction; and
WHEREAS, the funds from this grant will be utilized by the Police Department,
benefit the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of the City; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The grant application, a copy of which is attached hereto is hereby approved and
authorized for submittal to the Colorado Department of Public Safety.
SECTION 2.
The President of the City Council is authorized to execute same.

TITLE
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PUEBLO TO APPLY FOR A
2007 ANTI -GANG INITIATIVE FOR GANG VIOLENCE REDUCTION
ISSUE
The Colorado Department of Public Safety, Division of Criminal Justice has
informed the Police Department that funds are available under the Anti -Gang
Initiative Grant Program.
RECOMMENDATION
The department recommends approval of this resolution.
BACKGROUND
The 2007 Anti -Gang Initiative for Gang Violence Reduction grant provides funds
to units of local government for the purpose of providing overtime for gang
enforcement, enhancing the graffiti removal program, and providing training for
officers. The program is designed to help local communities address problems
specific to their area.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This grant would provide $35,834.00 for police officer overtime for gang
enforcement during the peak hours of gang activity on Friday and Saturday
nights. It would also provide $20,526.00 to hire a part-time temporary graffiti
removal coordinator for the Municipal Court's Graffiti Removal Program.
Additionally, it would provide $5,000.00 for graffiti removal.supplies and $1041.00
for officer training. There is no local match required.
