HomeMy WebLinkAbout11128RESOLUTION NO. 11128 A RESOLUTION APPROVING PHASE I OF THE MOUNTAIN PARK ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER'S RENOVATION, DESIGN, AND CONSTRUCTION PLANS OF THE PUEBLO MOUNTAIN PARK HORSESHOE LODGE WHEREAS, the City Council of Pueblo would like to encourage the use and development of the Pueblo Mountain Park for the citizens of Southern Colorado; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Pueblo recognizes the important contributions the Mountain Park Environmental Center makes to the community of Pueblo and to the environmental education of children and adults who utilize their services; and WHEREAS, the design, modifications and construction for the Horseshoe Lodge meet the building, construction, and zoning qualifications, standards, and requirements of the City of Pueblo, County of Pueblo, and Pueblo Regional Building; and WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo Administrative staff has reviewed and approved the renovation, design, and construction plans of the Pueblo Mountain Park Horseshoe Lodge; and WHEREAS, renovation and improvement of the Horseshoe Lodge will benefit the community of Pueblo, its citizens and individuals, and groups who visit and use this facility from other areas of the state and country; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. City Council recognizes the invaluable role the Pueblo Mountain Park has with regard to recreation and use by the Citizens of Pueblo and surrounding communities and its important history in the development of the Pueblo area. SECTION 2. City staff has reviewed renovation plans of Horseshoe Lodge and the necessary zoning and building requirements for construction and building modification purposes. SECTION 3. City Council does hereby approve of the design, renovations, and construction of the Pueblo Mountain Park Horseshoe Lodge Phase I. INTRODUCED October 22, 2007 ATTESTED BY APPROVED: ESID NTof City Council CITY CLERK Randy Thurston Councilperson Res. 11128 Background Paper for Proposed RESOLUTION AGENDA ITEM # I- DATE: October 22, 2007 DEPARTMENT: OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER DAVE GALLI, CITY MANAGER DOUG FITZGERALD, ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER TITLE A RESOLUTION APPROVING PHASE I OF THE MOUNTAIN PARK ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER'S RENOVATION, DESIGN, AND CONSTRUCTION PLANS OF THE PUEBLO MOUNTAIN PARK HORSESHOE LODGE BACKGROUND The Mountain Park Environmental Center (MPEC) approached the City regarding the possibility of using the Horseshoe Lodge at the Pueblo Mountain Park (PMP) for their educational programs and activities relating to the environment. Currently, the MPEC and its operations are housed at the old Caretaker House that is located on the property at PMP. MPEC would like to expand their programs of education, and their current location is not sufficient enough for this accommodation. In order to utilize the Lodge, the MPEC will need to do improvements to the property and the structure itself before proceeding. MPEC is currently in the process of raising money for this project and has collected to date, $463,695. The project has three (3) phases and funding has been collected to begin and finish Phase 1. The projected construction costs for this endeavor is $443,557 with the work being performed by Redfern Construction. Approval of the Resolution. FINANCIAL IMPACT None.
