DATE: JUNE 11, 2007 DEPARTMENT: FIRE DEPARTMENT -FIRE CHIEF CHRISTOPHER P. RILEY TITLE A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO REQUEST PROPOSALS FOR TWO NEW FIRE DEPARTMENT TRUCKS ISSUE Should City Council approve the Request for Proposal to purchase: (1) 1250 GPM -4 door Fire Pumper (1) Ladder Truck With Equipment. RECOMMENDATION Approval of Resolution. The trucks that are to be taken out of service are old, unreliable and have an extremely high maintenance cost. Equipment replacement will assist in maintaining our ISO grading 7TdfrI31L`L'. This equipment would assist in upgrading our fleet. The vehicles that we will be replacing consist of a 1988 aerial truck and a 1974 Ward LaFrance pumper. FINANCIAL IMPACT The approximate cost of both vehicles will be $1,110,000. Approval of the purchase and appropriation of funds will be brought to City Council by separate Ordinance. We anticipate a lease /purchase arrangement. Currently the City appropriates $185,000 per year on a current lease /purchase for fire vehicles, with the final payment to be made in January of 2008. We would structure the lease for the new vehicles to begin in 2009, with lease payments to remain at or near the current amount of $185,000 for approximately seven years.
