HomeMy WebLinkAbout11022RESOLUTION NO. 11022 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PUEBLO TO APPLY FOR THE DISCRETIONARY FUNDS IN FISCAL YEAR 2007 FOR THE DISCRETIONARY BUS AND BUS FACILITIES PROGRAM AUTHORIZED BY 49 U.S.C. 5309(B) TO REPLACE A TOTAL OF FIVE TRANSIT BUSES WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo supports the replacement of five transit buses and the submittal of a grant application to the Federal Transit Administration for the discretionary bus and bus facilities funds available in FY 2007 for the discretionary bus and bus facilities program BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. The grant application for the replacement of five transit buses to the Federal Transit Administration discretionary bus funding, a copy of which is attached hereto is approved. The President of City Council is authorized to execute and deliver the Grant Application in the name of the City and the City Clerk shall affix the seal of the City thereto and attest the same. SECTION 2. The grant request is in the amount of $1,625,000, with the City of Pueblo obligating $325,000 as 20% cash match from the City's General Fund. RECOMMENDATION Approval of the Resolution. BACKGROUND The U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration are accepting grant applications to support, additional strategic investments in bus and bus facilities projects. (Federal Register Nol. 72, No. 56). A balance of $438,184,372 is available to the Federal Transit Administration for discretionary allocation in FY 2007. The City will procure five transit buses through a piggyback option in 2007 from a transit authority holding a current contract to purchase 35' buses. FINANCIAL IMPACT The total project cost is $1,625;000. The FTA match at 80% is $1,300,000 and the required City match at 20% is $325,000 to be appropriated out of the City's General Fund. Three (3) out of the five (5) coaches are pre- ADA. The City did not received sufficient funding for this project in the SAFETEA -LU earmark for FY 2007.
