HomeMy WebLinkAbout10992RESOLUTION NO. 10992 A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MAY 11, 2007 AS STEEL CITY PRIDE DAY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CLEANING AND BEAUTIFYING THE CITY OF PUEBLO WHEREAS, the City Council believes ongoing efforts to beautify the City of Pueblo are needed for an improved quality of life for the citizens of Pueblo; and WHEREAS, the City Council strongly encourages the dedication and energy of the City's youth in assisting with the cleaning and beautifying of the City of Pueblo; and WHEREAS, the City Council, Pueblo School District 60, and community leaders have forged a partnership to address the issue of trash and litter to improve the aesthetics of the City of Pueblo; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the youth of School District 60 for their outstanding efforts in making Pueblo a city of excellence; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. City Council recognizes the invaluable role of beautifying the City of Pueblo in its efforts to improve the quality of life for its residents and visitors. SECTION 2. City Council acknowledges the importance of cooperation between government bodies and community leaders in cleaning up the community and in empowering the community's youth to help make Pueblo a model city for Colorado's front range. SECTION 3 The City Council hereby designates May 11, 2007, as Steel City Pride Day. SECTION 4 This Resolution becomes effective upon final passage and approval. This event utilized students from 22 grade schools in School District 60 along with other community organizations and leaders in cleaning up trash and debris in certain areas of the Pueblo community. The organizations planning and contributing to this event are: Pueblo City Council, District 60, Zupan Enterprises, Pueblo Disposal, and Little Caesar's Pizza. The event for this year is set to occur on May 11, 2007 from I p.m. to 3 p.m. The winning class, which is the class that collects the most garbage, will receive a free pizza party provided by Mr. Dave Feamster, owner, of Little Caesar's Pizza. RECOMMENDATION Resolution at the request of Council Member Thurston. FINANCIAL IMPACT None.
