HomeMy WebLinkAbout10967RESOLUTION NO. 10967 A RESOLUTION APPOINTING A QUALIFIED PERSON TO FILL THE VACANCY ON THE PUEBLO BOARD OF WATER WORKS DUE TO THE RESIGNATION OF VERA ORTEGON BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. Pursuant to Section 2 -6 of the Charter of the City of Pueblo, Michael A. Cafasso is hereby appointed to fill the vacancy on the Pueblo Board of Water Works created by the resignation of Vera Ortegon. SECTION 2. According to law, this individual shall hold the office until the next General Municipal Election when the vacancy shall be filled by election. The term of office for the individual selected to fill this vacancy shall terminate at the expiration of the term during which the vacancy occurred (December 31, 2007). BACKGROUND Longtime Water Board Member, Mrs. Vera Ortegon, resigned her position due to her selection (February 5, 2007) to the Pueblo City Council filling out the term of former Council Member Jeff Chostner. Section 2-6 in the City Charter states, "Any vacancy in an elective office shall be filled by appointment of the Council." Following two advertisements for the Water Board vacancy in the Pueblo Chieftain on February 18, 2007 and February 25, 2007, a total of eight resumes were received. On March 12, 2007, the City Council reviewed and selected four applicants from the group of eight to be interviewed. At the March 19, 2007 City Council Work Session, the City Council conducted interviews of the four finalists. This Resolution will appoint the consensus choice of the Council as determined by review of resumes and the interview process. RECOMMENDATION Approval of the Resolution. FINANCIAL IMPACT None.
