TITLE
A RESOLUTION AWARDING A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT IN THE
AMOUNT OF $15,882.00 TO PARKER EXCAVATING, INC., FOR THE PALMER
AVENUE EMERGENCY SANITARY SEWER REPAIR, AND AUTHORIZING
THE PURCHASING AGENT TO EXECUTE THE SAME.
ISSUE
Should the City Council award a construction contract in the amount of
$15,882.00 to Parker Excavating, Inc., for the Palmer Avenue emergency
sanitary sewer repair?
RECOMMENDATION
Approve this Resolution.
BACKGROUND
On Thursday, February 8, 2007, the Wastewater Department became aware of a
broken sanitary sewer line in the alley between Palmer Avenue and Claremont
Avenue, in the 1100 block of Palmer Avenue. A cleaning hose became stuck in
the main, leading to the discovery of a broken pipe. As work progressed, it
became evident that the sanitary sewer line was broken and collapsed at multiple
locations. Ultimately it was necessary to replace 50 feet of sewer pipe. There
were issues with underground utilities and with electric poles that required
equipment the City does not own. Because the job proved to be beyond the
scope of the Wastewater Department, the City Manager was asked on February
8, 2007 to approve an emergency repair. A copy of the agreement with Parker
Excavating, Inc. is attached, along with quote for the unit prices for the work.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funding for this project will be taken from the emergency repair budget funded by
the Sewer User Fund. Funding is available and was appropriated in the 2007
budget.
