TITLE
A RESOLUTION RENAMING THE PARK CURRENTLY KNOWN AS HYDE PARK PARK
TO ERSILIA CRUZ PARK
ISSUE
Mrs. Ersilia Cruz passed away on September 8, 2006, after battling the disease of Lupus. She
was a strong advocate for the Westside neighborhood and was involved in programs, projects,
and groups that addressed the needs of this community. She was the director of many programs
at the Hyde Park Community Center and was instrumental in helping with the location of Caesar
Chavez Academy and Dolores Huerta Preparatory School to the Westside neighborhood. She
was a dedicated individual who was always looking for ways to improve the neighborhood — she
called it "remodeling the Westside." This resolution will recognize and affirm the City
Council's appreciation of Mrs. Cruz and honor her contributions to her community by renaming
Hyde Park Park — Ersilia Cruz Park.
RECOMMENDATION
This Resolution is at the request of Councilmember Weaver.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
A boulder will be used as signage designating the newly renamed park. It is estimated that a
total of $2,500 will be needed for this project. The cleaning and engraving of a boulder will cost
approximately $1,200, and $1,300 will be needed to move and position the rock at the park.
