TITLE
A RESOLUTION APPOINTING MEMBERS TO THE HONOR FARM PARK AND
OPEN SPACE MASTER PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
ISSUE
Should City Council appoint members to the Honor Farm Park and Open Space
Master Plan Advisory Committee?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of the Resolution
There are twenty -five applicants to fill appointments to the Honor Farm Master Plan
Advisory Committee, as well as the appointments of representatives designated by
Lake Pueblo State Park, Pueblo Motorsports Park, Sky Corral Model Airplane Club,
Pueblo West Metropolitan District, the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, Pueblo
County Commissioners, and City Council. The Sky Corral Model Airplane Club
representative was not included in the initial list provided to City Council at the work
session on May 27, 2006, Sky Corral has leased a portion of the City's Honor Farm
property for a number of years for the development and operation of a model airplane
facility. Therefore City staff has included a representative that was recommended for
appointment to the committee by the model airplane club. The Pueblo County
Commissioners and the City Council will also each have an appointment to the
Advisory Committee.
An advertisement seeking volunteers to serve on this committee was published in The
Pueblo Chieftain, on Saturday, June 3, 2006, Wednesday, June 7, 2006, and Sunday,
June 11, 2006 and the individuals listed below submitted applications that are
attached for your review.
The committee will assist in the development of the master plan and management
recommendations during the timeframe of July, 2006 through March, 2007. The
City of Pueblo is seeking volunteers that would represent the following groups and
interest areas:
• West Side neighborhood
• Park West Business Park / YMCA Community Campus
• Open space
• Natural resources management
• Off - highway motor vehicles
• Youth sports
• Adult sports
• Non - motorized trails use.
Two of the applicants, Tom Cone and Randy Meyer, reside in El Paso County and
either work in Pueblo or own property in Pueblo. Based on guidance provided by City
Council on June 26, 2006, applicants who reside in El Paso County have not been
considered for appointment to the advisory committee. Additionally, five of the
categories have been combined into two categories in order to have the committee
reduced to a more workable number of twelve representatives. The Open Space and
Natural Resource categories have been combined; and the YMCA Community
Campus, Youth and Adult Sports categories have been combined into one category.
City Staff is recommending that the following applicants be appointed to the Honor
Farm Master Plan Advisory Committee:
