INTRODUCED July 10, 2006 BY Randy Thurston Councilperson APPROVED: President of City Council ATTESTED BY: CITY CLERK Y /0772 - = 10 WO " Background Paper for Proposed RESOLUTION AGENDA ITEM# 3 DATE: JULY 10, 2006 DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER DAVID J. GALLI, CITY MANAGER DOUGLAS M. FITZGERALD, ASST. CITY MANAGER TITLE A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF $101,000 FROM THE PROJECTS TO BE DETERMINED ACCOUNT IN THE 2006 HARP LAND SALES FUND TO REIMBURSE THE HARP AUTHORITY FOR ASBESTOS REMOVAL AT THE MUNICIPAL COURT AND THE RELOCATION OF A PEDESTRIAN LIGHT ISSUE Should funds in the amount of $101,000 be transferred for the purpose of reimbursing the HARP Authority for expenses associated with asbestos removal at the Municipal Court and the relocation of a pedestrian light? RECOMMENDATION Approval of this Resolution. The demolition of the current Municipal Court will be necessary for the HARP Phase III expansion. After close inspection, it has been determined that the Court building contains significant amounts of asbestos which will result in a much higher cost for demolition than previously estimated. The new estimates for demolition are approximately $100,000. The HARP Authority has requested that the costs incurred for the demolition of the building be reimbursed to them from the HARP Land Sales fund. As a result of the Anzuini project on the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk, it became necessary to relocate the pedestrian light located near the site of the project. The estimated cost to relocate this light is $1,800. The HARP Authority has requested that this amount be reimbursed to them from the HARP Land Sales fund. FINANCIAL IMPACT The estimated cost of the demolition and pedestrian light relocation is $101,800. However, there is currently only $101,000 available in the HARP Land Sales fund.
