ISSUE
Should the City Council award a construction contract for the PROJECT NO. 06 -020,
CONCRETE AREA DRAIN PAD to Doug Vaughn Concrete LLC for $31,955.00?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of this Resolution.
BACKGROUND
The project will upgrade the area at the James R. Dilorio Water Reclamation Facility
where street sweepers and vacuum trucks of the Wastewater and Stormwater
Departments dump water and debris. These maintenance vehicles collect water and
debris from streets, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers. The debris is hauled to the
Water Reclamation Facility where the water is drained to the headworks for treatment,
and the solids are mixed with biosolids and trucked to the landfill for disposal. The pipe
carrying water from the dump area presently becomes plugged several times annually.
Unplugging the pipe is a substantial effort requiring several days' work by wastewater
crews. This project will construct a concrete baffle around the drain to exclude solid
debris from the drain pipe and constructing a concrete apron that will accommodate the
weight of maintenance vehicles better than the existing asphalt area. These
modifications will make the debris dewatering and disposal operation more efficient.
Competitive bids were solicited. Two firms submitted bids. The contract was awarded
to the low bidder. A bid summary sheet is attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds for this project will be provided from the sewer user fund.
