A RESOLUTION APPROVING A LOCAL GOVERNMENT CERTIFICATION
AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND THE SUBMITTAL
OF AN APPLICATION FOR A STATE HISTORICAL FUND CERTIFIED LOCAL
GOVERNMENT GRANT FOR THE PUEBLO HISTORIC RESOURCES
RECONNAISSANCE SURVEY AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY
COUNCIL TO SUBMIT SAME.
ISSUE
Should the City Council approve a Local Government Certification Agreement with the
State Historical Society and the submittal of a 2006 Certified Local Government grant
application for a Pueblo Historic Resources Reconnaissance Survey?
The Historic Preservation Commission voted 7 -0 at their September 22, 2005 meeting
to recommend submittal of the application.
Pursuant to Resolution #10503 approved by the City Council of Pueblo September 12,
2005, the City was approved October 18, 2005 by the U.S. D. I. National Park Service as a
Certified Local Government (CLG) for historic preservation purposes. Certification
provides the City with eligibility to a proprietary grant program available only to Certified
Local Governments for restricted historic preservation projects within the jurisdiction of
the CLG. The final step in the certification process is acceptance of an agreement with
the Colorado Historical Society agreeing to the conditions of application listed in
Resolution No. 10503.
The city is eligible to submit a CLG grant application each year. The project proposed for
the first year of certification is a historic resource reconnaissance survey, providing long-
term direction for the city s historic preservation program. The grant request amount is
$21,000.
