TITLE
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF $5,000 FROM THE
CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2005 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO
THE OUT OF CYCLE REQUESTS TO FUND POSADA IN THEIR EFFORTS TO
ASSIST THE DISPLACED VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA
ISSUE
Hurricane Katrina has displaced over 250,000 individuals and families in
Louisiana and areas of Mississippi and Alabama. In order to assist these states,
across the nation states such as Colorado are sheltering families and providing
other relief efforts. In the City of Pueblo, organizations such as the Red Cross,
Posada, the Pueblo Community Health Center, School District #60, Catholic
Charities, the Pueblo City- County Health Department, and the Pueblo County
Department of Housing and Human Services are helping in the cause of
assistance. The organization in the City that is experiencing the most strain on
its resources for this matter is Posada. Posada is coordinating placements in
temporary housing, assisting evacuees with registering with the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and referring families and individuals
to the Red Cross. To date, Posada has served 17 homeless families and
expects approximately 100 more families to arrive in Pueblo.
