DIRECTOR — DANIEL E. CENTA, P.E.
TITLE
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF $1,500 FROM THE 2005
CONTINGENCY ACCOUNT TO THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT BUDGET
TO PAY FOR ADDITIONAL ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES AND OTHER
RELATED EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH ADA ISSUES RELATIVE TO THE EL
CENTRO DEL QUINTO SOL COMMUNITY CENTER.
ISSUE
Should the City Council approve the transfer of $1,500 from the 2005 Contingency
Account to the Public Works Department budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of this Resolution.
BACKGROUND
The City put out a request for proposals to determine what improvements were necessary
to bring the El Centro Del Quinto Sol Community Center facility into full compliance
with the Americans with Disabilities Act and to provide a cost estimate for such
improvements. Architectural Innovations, LLC, is the architectural firm that was
contracted to do this study.
Upon initial review, it appeared that the installation of an elevator providing access to the
2 °d floor would be required. After further investigation, is seems that the Justice
Department will allow comparable recreational facilities to be placed in the basement,
thus eliminating the need for the elevator. The alternative would be to install an interior
ramp to the basement. This would result in a significant cost savings for the required
ADA renovations of this building.
Architectural Innovations, LLC., has submitted a proposed cost of $1,500 in additional
architectural work to prepare a concept plan which shows the configuration of this ramp
alternative. Once completed, all alternatives will be presented to City Council.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds in the amount of $1,500 will be transferred from the Contingency Fund in the
Public Works Department Budget, Account No. 101 - 4010- 430.30 -01.
