HomeMy WebLinkAbout10423RESOLUTION NO. 10423 A RESOLUTION OF ENDORSEMENT AND SUPPORT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A FRONT RANGE COMMUTER RAIL SYSTEM ALONG THE FRONT RANGE CORRIDOR OF COLORADO FROM THE CITY OF PUEBLO TO THE CITY OF FT. COLLINS WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo supports strong economic ties and encourages transit development with other towns, cities, and counties along the front range of Colorado; and WHEREAS, the front range of Colorado, and especially the southern portion from Pueblo to Colorado Springs, is in need of a modern commuter transportation system; and WHEREAS, the Front Range of Colorado from Pueblo to Ft. Collins is experiencing an increase in work, school, special events, and other travel purposes; and WHEREAS, a commuter passenger rail system will promote economic growth, enhance the quality of life, improve environmental conditions through a decrease in fuel emissions, and create a travel choice for the citizens of Colorado; and WHEREAS, the communities and businesses along the Front Range Corridor of Colorado have a stake in the successful creation and implementation of a commuter rail, which will transform personal travel, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. The City Council supports the efforts and vision of the Colorado non - profit corporation, Front Range Commuter Rail, to move forward with a feasibility study in providing funding and governance for a Front Range Commuter Rail System. SECTION 2. The City Council recognizes the invaluable need to link up the front range cities and counties to promote economic growth, enhance quality of life, improve environmental conditions through a decrease in fuel emissions, create travel choice, and transform personal travel in Colorado. SECTION 3. The City Council conveys its support for the establishment of a Front Range Commuter Rail System that will provide the necessary 21' Century personal transportation service from the City of Pueblo to the City of Ft. Collins. COLLINS ISSUE The transportation needs for the Front Range Corridor of Colorado have been growing dramatically due to increased travel for work, school, special events, and other purposes. In order to meet these increasing need, it is being proposed by the Colorado non - profit corporation, Front Range Commuter Rail (FRCR), to construct a passenger rail service from the cities of Pueblo and Ft. Collins. The FRCR has been formed to bring counties, cities, towns, transit agencies, and planning organizations into a governing district or authority to initiate and operate the commuter rail system that will offer service between Ft. Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. The funding of the Front Range Commuter Rail System will involve a mix of public and private funds. RECOMMENDATION State Representative Dorothy Butcher has asked for this Resolution to be presented to the City Council FINANCIAL IMPACT No financial impact.
