A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PIKES PEAK REGIONAL
VETERANS' CEMETERY IN THE PIKES PEAK REGION
WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo enjoys a strong community bond with all branches of the
United States Military; and
WHEREAS, southern Colorado, and especially the Pikes Peak Region, has been the home
away from home for thousands of military service men and women and their families for decades,
and it continues to be the location of choice for generations of retired military families; and
WHEREAS, the Pikes Peak Region is comprised of El Paso, Pueblo, Fremont, and Teller
Counties; and
WHEREAS, Congressman Salazar, Senator Allard, and Senator Salazar support the
establishment of a National Veterans' Cemetery in Colorado; and
WHEREAS, the Pikes Peak State Veterans' Cemetery Committee has obtain support for
the Regional Veterans' Cemetery in the Pikes Peak Region from the Pikes Peak Veterans' Council
and its forty -one member organizations, the Pueblo Veterans' Council, the United Veterans
Committee of Colorado, the Military Affairs Council of the Colorado Springs Chamber of
Commerce, the Fort Carson Encroachment Committee, the City of Colorado Springs, and various
other Veterans and civic organizations and leaders, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO. that:
SECTION 1.
The City Council hereby supports the efforts and vision of the Pikes Peak State Veterans'
Cemetery Committee to move toward the establishment of a regional veterans' cemetery.
SECTION 2.
The City of Pueblo recognizes the invaluable role of the military in the Pueblo community
and surrounding areas.
SECTION 3.
The City Council appreciates and acknowledges the dedicated efforts of each and every
veteran who has defended our freedom, helped build our community, contributed to our rich
heritage, and called the Pikes Peak Region home.
SECTION 4.
The City Council hereby conveys its commitment to establishing the Pikes Peak Region
specifically in the area of Pueblo County, as a site for a Regional Veterans' Cemetery.

PEAK REGIONAL VETERANS' CEMETERY IN THE PIKES PEAK REGION
ISSUE
The Pikes Peak State Veterans' Cemetery Committee is seeking support in its
efforts to establish a Colorado State Veterans Cemetery for southern Colorado
and specifically for the Pikes Peak Region, which is comprised of El Paso,
Pueblo, Fremont, and Teller Counties. The Pikes Peak Region has been
targeted because it is home to over 103,000 veterans. The Committee has
obtained the backing of the Pikes Peak Veterans Council and its forty -one
member organizations, the Pueblo Veterans' Council, the United Veterans
Committee of Colorado, the Military Affairs Council of the Colorado Springs
Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Carson Encroachment Committee, the City of
Colorado Springs, and various other Veterans and civic organizations and
leaders. Congressman Salazar, Senator Allard, and Senator Salazar support the
establishment of a National Veterans' Cemetery in Colorado, and now the City of
Pueblo has been approached to offer its support.
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of the Resolution.
