RECOMMENDATION Approval of the Resolution. BACKGROUND The Walking Stick Golf Course has been selected by the United States Golf Association as the site to hold their 2006 Women's Amateur Public Links Championship Golf Tournament. This tournament is one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the country. One hundred and forty four female amateur golfers will participate in this nationally covered event. This agreement will allow for the exclusive use of Walking Stick Golf course from June 18 through June 25, 2006 plus one "Media Day" event to the USGA in order to conduct this championship at which time the course will be closed for play to the general public. FINANCIAL IMPACT Because of the financial obligation to Walking Stick bondholders, green fees may be waived to the USGA and paid from other City sources. Green fees are estimated at $21,420 for the event. In connection with the City's agreement to host the Championship, the USGA will pay the City $25,000.00 before April 15, 2006. This payment will be used to offset the waived fees and the balance of $3,580.00 will be transferred into the 2006 Women's Amateur Public Links Championship Golf Tournament Capital Improvement Project. In the 2005 City Budget, the golf tournament has been partially funded for $25,000.00 as a Capital Improvement Project in order to start addressing the obligations by the City associated with hosting this tournament, which is estimated to be $82,700. The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce will actively seek local corporate sponsorships and donations to help defray the cost of hosting this national tournament and will also make a request to the Board of County Commissioners for a $25,000 commitment.
