FINANCIAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $1,000 will be transferred from the Contingencies Account in the 2004 General Fund Budget (see attached spreadsheet for the balance in the contingencies account). r PUEBLO MEDAL OF HONOR FOUNDATION ! Home of Heroes Tuesday, June 01, 2004 Dave Galli Assistant City Manager 1 City Hall Place Pueblo, CO 81003 Dear Dave, The Pueblo Medal of Honor Foundation is working with the Pueblo Convention Center to upgrade the inside Medal of Honor display in the hallway of the Convention Center. This display was Doug Sterner's idea and to make it happen it became a collaborative effort financially of John and Nadene Verna, the City and County of Pueblo and the Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority, the Pueblo Chieftain, and Pete Lemon. While the purview of the Pueblo Medal of Honor Foundation is the outside Memorial, we feel that the inside display can be upgraded to draw more attention and offer information not available outside. We wish to add a computer and keyboard which will allow a person to look up any Medal of Honor recipient and read about their citation. The data base that Doug Sterner has created will call them up by name, by branch of the service, by war, by state. It will allow a visitor to the display to read something on every one of the over 3,400 names we have listed outside. The voice chip will also be upgraded. Currently it mentions that Pueblo's four Medal of Honor recipients are all living. We want to use wording that will alleviate the need to change it should something happen to each of the two living Pueblo recipients. We would like to have this all in place by September of this year when we host a Family and Friends of the Medal of Honor Convention September 30, October 1 & 2. We are asking the City of Pueblo to help with a $1,000 donation toward this $5,000 venture. We are also asking the County Commissioners and the Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority to do the same and join the Pueblo Medal of Honor Foundation and John and Nadene Verna who have each pledged $1,000 toward this joint venture. We thank you for your consideration in this matter. Since I will be out of town for a week, if you have any questions please feel free to contact Paulette Stuart, the Executive Director of the Pueblo Medal of Honor Foundation.
