ISSUE
Should the City Council award a construction contract for 2004 Sanitary Sewer
Rehabilitation, Remove and Replace Project to Pate Construction Co., in the
amount of $1,979,892.61?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of this Resolution.
BACKGROUND
Vitrified clay pipe was installed approximately 50 years ago to provide sanitary
sewer service in the thirteen (13) sites indicated on the attached site map. The
pipe is deteriorating and has begun to crack. The sites within the downtown area
and other sites throughout the City have begun to leak and could pose a risk to
public health. Sites 11, 12, and 13 have cracked and broken pipe resulting in
high infiltration of ground water into the sanitary sewer system. Infiltration results
in higher quantities of water being treated at the Water Reclamation Facility.
Bids were received for replacing sanitary sewers at these sites using
conventional open -cut, remove - and - replace methods. All surface amenities will
be replaced where construction occurs.
A copy of the bid summary, and a site map showing the locations of these
projects, are attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds for said project shall be expended from the State Revolving Loan Fund for
Sanitary Sewer Improvements, Project No. WW0405.
