HomeMy WebLinkAbout09857 RESOLUTION NO. 9857 "As Amended" A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE FINDINGS OF DURRANT ARCHITECTS' PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY STUDY AND CREATING A CITIZEN COMMITTEE TO ASSIST IN THE ADVANCEMENT OF THIS PROJECT WHEREAS, Durrant Architects were hired by the City of Pueblo to conduct a study on the need for a new public safety facility, the feasibility of co-locating the public safety facility with the Pueblo County Sheriff's office, the preferred site for a new public safety facility, and the public preference as to a method of financing the new public safety facility, and WHEREAS, Durrant Architects held 18 hours of interviews with numerous community leaders and an open public workshop to gather information to establish these findings, now therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. The findings of Durrant Architects' study of a new City of Pueblo Public Safety Facility are hereby adopted as follows: 1. There is a need for a new public safety facility in the City of Pueblo and that facility is needed now. 2. The co-location of the City of Pueblo's public safety facility with the Pueblo County Sheriff's administrative offices is not recommended for this community. 3. The preferred site for the construction of the new City of Pueblo Public Safety Facility is property owned by the City of Pueblo located at the corner of Main and "D' streets in downtown Pueblo. 4. That the new City of Pueblo Public Safety Facility be constructed without the levying of additional taxes and further suggested that a portion of the existing 1/2-cent Sales Tax Fund for Economic Development be used to finance the new facility. SECTION 2. City Council does hereby authorize the formation of a citizen committee to assist in the advancement of this project with the citizens of Pueblo. SECTION 3. As part of the citizen's committee responsibilities, the committee shall consider the inclusion of funding the construction of a fire station in the El Camino subdivision when considering the funding options for a new public safety facility. SECTION 4. Said committee will be appointed by the City Council at the City Council meeting of June 9, 2003.
