M INTRODUCED October 12 ' 1999 John Verna Councilpe on APPROVED President of City Council ATTEST: M91 00, - M MQ k -- - k M I City Clerk 2 Council Agenda TITLE: A RESOLUTION AWARDING A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR 1999 W. 11 STREET SIDEWALK DEPARTMENT: Public Works ISSUE .a AGENDA ITEM # DATE: Oct. 12, 1999 Should the City Council award a construction contract for 1999 W 11 STREET SIDEWALK to Doug Vaughn Concrete, for $93,182.80. RECOMMENDATION Approval of this Resolution BACKGROUND Although the title refers to the construction of W. 11t St. sidewalks, this project is a combination of four CDBG projects, which were combined for purposes of expediency and to take advantage of economies of scale. The four projects are as follows: 1.) Install missing sidewalk along W. 11 St, from Oak Ave to Adee Ave. ($36,592.10) 2.) Install missing curb and gutter, and sidewalk in Henry Ave., from St. Clair Ave to Lucas Ave. (15,609.00) 3.) Install missing sidewalk along Cherry Ln, Sage St to Thatcher Ave, where sidewalk easements have been granted to the City. ($20,732.00) The existing right -of -way was insufficient to allow for the construction of sidewalks plus room for water meters. Property owners were asked to grant a 5' easement for these purposes. Some refused to grant the easement and these properties were not included in the project. 4.) Install parking lot paving and concrete driveway apron for the Martin Luther King Museum at 2713 N. grand Ave. ($20,249.70) Attached is a copy of the competitive bid tabulation for the project. The bid by Vertex Concrete was 110 I a Z 1WENOME 111 111-- disqualified at the request of Vertex because of errors in their bid. The next low bid was Doug Vaughn Concrete. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funds for this project will be provided from the CDBG Fund and all expenditures will be charged to Account Numbers: 004 - 1999 - 400 - 000 - 040 -7524 and 004 - 1999 - 400 - 000 - 040 -7525 J
