This letter concerns our bid for the above referenced project
with the City of Pueblo: Downtown Transit Center, 196 -049.
As I had discussed with you briefly on Tuesday, September 17,
1996 I made two mathematical errors in adding which made our bid
about four hundred thousand dollars lower than it should have been.
The morning of any bid is always hectic and the Transit center
bid was no exception. Many of our major prices did not come in
until after nine thirty. I was going to,take the bid in personally
which meant i needed to leave our office by at least 9:45 to wake
sure.2 was on time.
At 9:45 1 added all our numbers together and still needed to
add in the roof , the electrical and the HVAC bid. I took these
bids and decided that I would have Roma drive me while I added
these numbers in the car. This is what I did and this is where Z
made the first math error.
Enclosed is a copy of the adding machine tape that shows the
printed numbers, the numbers I wrote in the car and my total. I
added our fee and the cost for the bond and came up with the total
I wrote on the bid document: $1,403,615.00
SEP 20 1 96 08:51 HGF FRCHITECTS INC.
P.2/4
In- "_gging over my figures later, Z found.a mistake in the
numbers I added for the total of the structural steel bid. I PUT
DOW* 22,95£.00) The number should have been 222,956 00 for
structural - steel. Again it was the rush of the last minute that
contributed to these two errors.. The time that Midwest Steel faxed
their numbers over to us was 9:27 A.M.
Cortez Construction regrets the errors_ To try to complete
this size job with errors over 440,000.00 would cause extreme
hardship to our company. We simply could not do it.
time.
We respectfully request that our bid be withdrawn at this,
Sincerely,
